Conkles Hollow, situated off S.R. 374 on Big Pine Road is a rugged, rocky gorge - considered one of the deepest in Ohio. The valley floor is a veritable wilderness covered by a profusion of ferns and wildflowers. The deep, cool gorge, which is only 100 feet wide in places and is considered by some to be the deepest in Ohio, has numerous waterfalls cascading over its sandstone cliffs. The Lower Gorge trail was recently redesigned to accommodate visitors of all abilities. The cliff tops with their magnificent overlooks and the quiet gorge beneath offer visitors an opportunity to explore different habitats, each with its own unique plant and animal communities. The Hocking State Forest consists of 9,696 scres in Hocking County, 59 miles of hiking on 3 different trails, 40 miles of bridle trails - Hocking State Forest Bridle Trail, 23 horse campsites - Hocking State Forest Horsemans Camp, rockclimbing and rappelling area of 99 acreas and Three State Nature Preserves - Conkles Hollow - open to the public and Sheick Hollow and little Rocky Hollow with admission by permit only. Other sites are Chapel Cave, Airplane Rock and an Artisen Well. Hocking State Forest is managed under the multiple-use concept with special empahsis on maintaining or creating a forest cover that will enhance woodland recreation. The area is also managed for timber and wildlife habitat, forestry research and demonstrations of good forest management, natural beauty, tree seed for forest nurseries and protection of soils and watershed.

Hocking Valley Scenic Railway - Take a leisurely train ride through the Hocking Hills in a historic train. Trains depart Saturday and Sunday from the Nelsonville Depot on U.S. Route 33 and Hocking Parkway, next to Rocky Gear. Paper Circle is a non-profit paper, print and book arts organization located on the historic, starbrick-lined square of Nelsonville. We house a gallery with 12 professional exhibitions a year, shop where we sell an assortment of handmade papers and other objects of art, and a creative studio which is located in the rear, in which we make paper by hand - and where we offer community workshops. Downstairs we have a screen printing shop and our O-Gami papermaking operation. Our major outreach program, Circle for Kids, takes place in the summer. In response to the lack of art education in the school from grades K-8, Circle for Kids provides the under-served area youth a summer of enrichment and learning through the arts.
